PROJECT: CBT: Standard Workstation Information Security The Need . In order for a new Civilian, Contractor, or Coast Guard member to use a Coast Guard Workstation they are required to take a course when they first arrive on base and need to retake the class annually. Logistics of providing groups with training in the Information Resource Center left many waiting for a monthly class before they could start work. Solution. Create a cost-effective, Computer based Training System using ASP, Flash, Action Script and Database Functionality. This allows the new arrival to simply sit in front of the Computer and take he 30 minute course at their availability. Primary Duties
Comprehensive brief teaches SWIII security measures, do’s and don’ts, tests students’ retention, and tracks completion dates so that users can be reminded to take the Brief every year. Completion of the course results in certification and the privilege of using CG SWIIIs. Designed with life cycle maintenance as a high priority, the presentation interface was created in Flash and the content separated into an XML file. As security measures evolve, content can be easily updated by modifying the XML file, without the skill level and intensive labor needed to update a Flash file. Results . People are now able to start work as soon as they have time to take the course rather than when the Instructional Resource Center has time to give them the course. They are also notified when it is time for them to renew their quals.
