PROJECT: CBT: Digital Voice Logger

The Need . At Training Center Petaluma the IT School students are trained to operate, repair and

troubleshoot a Digital Voice Logger (DVL) as a required part of their "A" School curriculum.

These $60,000 machines are expensive for the School to procure and maintain. Students only

receive their DVL classroom instruction once, when it could be years before they actually come

into contact with a machine in the field.

Solution. Create a cost-effective, Computer based Training System using ASP, Flash, Action Script. The student now takes a completely online course which is available via web and CD-ROM.

• Significantly reduce School procurement costs
• Allow greater numbers of students access to training at times most convenient to them
• Reduce the travel costs required by residence instruction
• Provide just-in-time access to troubleshooting assistance

Results . Students no longer train on this equipment here at TRACEN. They can take the course at there Current command and have the course available when they actually work on the equipment for refresher.
